Discover this initiative by the Job in Aarhus network to help people who have recently arrived in the Aarhus region to feel at home.
The programme is targeted to internationals working in the Aarhus region as well as their accompanying partners. Please note that this programme is not designed for students. If you are a student, please check programmes at StudenterhusAarhus, ESN, or your university department.
How does it work?
International newcomers are paired with a Welcome Buddy who will share their tips and advice about life in Denmark. The matching is made at cosy "Speed Buddying" events, inspired by speed dating, during which international newcomers get to meet their future Welcome Buddies.
Once buddies are matched, the coordinator will put the Welcome Buddy and the international newcomer in touch with each other. Buddies are encouraged to meet at least three times over a period of three months.
“I didn’t just get a soft landing in Denmark thanks to my Welcome Buddy, I also got a new friend”
Shiru, Singapore
Why you should sign up:
Please note that if you live outside the Aarhus region and/or cannot attend the events, the coordinator will match you based on your profile (i.e. age, interests, hobbies etc.). Furthermore, this programme isn't a job mentorship programme but mostly about socialising and adjusting to life in Denmark.
Become a Welcome Buddy
You’re Danish or you've been living in Denmark for at least a year, you're social, open-minded, you like to help and you have a positive experience in Denmark that you would like to share with others?
Then sign up to become a Welcome Buddy and have a positive impact in an expat's international journey to the country of hygge. As a Welcome Buddy, you can share your experience about everyday life in Denmark and give a warm welcome to help an international adapt to the Danish culture.
"At first, I thought it was something I was doing for someone else, but then I figured out it was just as much for me."
The Job in Aarhus network is a strong cooperation between The International Employment Unit Aarhus, Central Denmark Region, Aarhus University, HEADSTART, Business Region Aarhus, Destination Aarhus and International Community/Erhverv Aarhus.
The job in Aarhus network works towards the common goal of ensuring that Central Jutland is an attractive place to work and live for international employees and their accompanying families.
